Friends

Oh my..I have so many drafts around..thought I shd post them..

12 June 2007

Hello,

Feeling thoughtful today.

I wrote an "essay" on the topic: What is a friend during French exam that day. I don't expect myself to do well for that because, eh being me, i usually take hours to think it out; spending most of my time thinking about the question than trying to write grammatically correct sentences.

I remember when i was younger, having friends was something everyone tried to show-off. Until now, it still is, isn't it? In the case of friendster. Haha. It was a messy game, trying to form cliques and any one who didn't have one was deemed an outcast. So, you had to play the game right, and fast. Once labelled, ya'd be screwed until the day you graduates.

At the various stages of my life, sometimes I was in one, sometimes I was alone. I can't remember if i was bothered when i wasn't in one, but since i can't remember, I assume i wasn't. (Ha!) I am pretty sure when i was in lower primary, i didnt have a clique. Funny thing it didn't bother me. Hmmz..but perhaps only so because i spent my recesses ahem ahem..sheesh..attending ahem..trim-and-fit sessions. ( ha! those silly sessions..15 out of 40 students in my class were in that once..mais moi, permanent loyal member). There simply weren't opportunities outside the classroom to interact with one other, and of course during lessons, you would always have your...oh squeal..boy partner.

Chiobu no. ? and I once had a discussion on this. Is having really few but close friends better or having lots of acquaintances and assuming no close friends better(Ya know, the kind of people that can go around town stopping to say hello to xxx every 5 mins or so?). What do you think?

One thing I'm really thankful in life and appreciate is the friends around me. Money is never ever a factor. Neither is looks. They don't put you down simply because you are poorer than average or less a beauty than average. Neither do they hold you in high regard simply because you are rich or pretty.

This must be the most overused sentence in the world but really they are friends who are always there when you need them. They are people you know you can depend on. They do things for you without expecting anything in return. They do it simply because you are their friend.

Having such wonderful people around me, sometimes I really do think I'm the luckiest person on earth. Not that i really deserve it, for I am always the one that contributes the least in a friendship. I am never the one who initiates a meeting, or start up a conversation in msn.

I have fallen in and out of friendship many times because of this. In primary school, I once had a good friend. We would talk on the phone for hours everyday and go for tuition together every two to three days. When we entered differnt secondary schools, during the first few months, she called. Too wrapped up in my own life, we talked briefly and I went away. And no, I did not return the call.

So my dear friends, I beg a favor of you, that if you see me fading away, nudge me a little, because I really treasure our friendship, but just really lousy at taking initiatives. An excuse? Maybe, but it's really true, yep!

Heeee hEee heee hee heee...
